Well tonight was the final concert of the 2010-2011 school year. Woo! Hoo! I thought the kids sounded great. I am not a musician, so I like music I recognize. Tonight's program was full of that. Our kids are so talented!! Chris Perry

The band has engaged with a company called "Flags with Pride." With this firm, we will work to raise between $15,000 and $20,000. This is a critical amount of money. With all the statewide budget cuts, we will most likely have to pay all the costs previously covered by the district, plus the color guard director's salary. Our option, if this fundraiser is not successful, due to lack of participation, then band fees go up. A LOT! A fundraiser of this size and potential, takes away the need for auctions, car washes, and other minor projects.

To that end, it should not be considered optional for your child to participate in this fundraising project. Please remind your child to sign up on the sheets in the band hall to participate. If your child does not drive, they may need your assistance with that. We will try to pair them up with other students that drive, but not all our kids drive. Please be prepared to assist with this.

Yes, we realize this will take place over a holiday weekend. If we do the leg work now, then when we are crazy busy with marching band in the fall, we just have short work to put the flags out for labor day through 9/11. We have given heads up on this in previous emails, so it should not be a surprise. Additionally, this has been discussed at several booster meetings.

Please, if you value this program, get on board with this project. It can't be done with just a few people. It will take an army of help to be successful. Let's do the up front work now and reap the profits all year long!!


Congratulations to Spencer Wolfe, Forrest Wolfe, and Luke Maydwell. These outstanding students will be the drum majors for the 2011-2012 school year.

Also, a huge congratulations to our scholarship winners of $500 each. Stephanie Astle, Wynne Davis, Nick Mumme, Juan Salas, and Amethyst Southern.

And last but not least, congratulations to our solo concerto contest. Jose Guevara - third place; Spencer Wolfe - second place; and Amethyst Southern (our all-state clarinetist) - first place.


The Band/Athletic Physical form is now available in the Band Hall. Also, biographical and travel consent forms are available. School physicals will be offered on Monday, May 23, but ALL forms must be signed by parent and student and $20 fee paid before the physical. There is a clear Band form box is in the Band Hall for completed forms to be turned in. All Band student physicals (whether completed by school athletic department or private physician) must be completed by the time Band Camp starts in the summer. If you do not have your physical and/or forms completed you will not be able to march.

Last year our band students waited up to 6 hours to get their physical on physical day. If you want to avoid long lines, you may certainly have the physical done by your own doctor OR a Medi-clinic to avoid the wait. It just has to be done prior to the start of marching season.

Additional Flag Fundraiser Information from our Fundraiser Coordinator

Thank you to the 51 students who have signed up to deliver promotional flyers to homes in Lakewood Forest and Huntwick. You are great! We need more people to sign up--there are 3500 flyers to deliver house to house.

We are also in great need of people to help on Saturday, May 28--that's the day the 3500 Flags with Pride will be installed. At this time, only 33 wonderful, conscientious students have signed up. PLEAASE SIGN UP! Seniors--this is your last fund raiser--we need you too!

Tomorrow I will send a list of students who have signed up for May 21 and May 28. I will be happy to add your student's name via email.

I'm learning that this flag project is initially a 3 stage process...advertise, install, remove. Advertising is May 21, installation is May 28 and removal/return to school is May 31. Details on removal/return will be sent next week.

One final piece of news...we have the opportunity to distribute flags to another 1500 households for Flag Day, which is June 14. Seniors do not have to participate; this is a project for the current freshmen, sophomores and juniors. Details to follow.

The band's Spring Concert was wonderful tonight. I hope everyone was able to attend. If you weren't there you missed high energy music and great sound from each band. Kudos to the Directors and Bands!
