Message from Mr. Drake
Band, I am so very proud of you all! Proud of your performance yesterday, yes, but also of your attitude and hard work since the very start of summer band back in July. It is this hard work every day that led to your success yesterday - your consistent dedication, hard work, and attitude since July is why yesterday was such a success. I told you that however you did at the last performance that you would have earned it. You earned your incredible performance yesterday!!
Remember... the trophy and the ratings are a bonus; it is most important to me that you walk off a field or off the stage proud of yourselves, knowing that you were awesome and that you deserved every bit of it. Yesterday you did just that and there's no better gift to me in the world than to see your shining eyes and smiling faces right after your performance was over.
Please carry this feeling with you and remember it and use it as motivation for concert season, next marching season, and beyond. Seniors, we are so thankful for your hard work over the past four years... the band wouldn't be what it is without your leadership. I hope you will carry with you forever the happiness and pride you felt on Saturday. Congratulations!
Practice schedule this week: Thursday from 3:30-6:30. Remember, my goal is for rehearsal to go as quickly as possible... if it takes three hours it takes three, if it takes one and a half it takes one and a half. This is all up to how fast you work and if we have 100 percent attendance starting at the beginning of rehearsal... please do not be late. Also, remember that you must be at rehearsal to participate on the field at the game.
Dr. Shauna Thompson, the flute professor at TCU will be giving a FREE clinic to region band hopeful flute players THIS Tuesday from 4:30-6 at Cypress Ridge. Please attend and let Mr. Drake know if you're going so he can tell her to have materials for you.
Region Orchestra Winds Auditions:
If you haven't already turned it in, please give Mr. Drake your Region Orchestra Winds audition entry and 15 dollars by Wednesday at the latest. The audition is Monday, November 11. There will be a sectional on Monday, November 18 and the clinic/concert is the weekend of November 22, 23. Best of luck to all auditioning! There will be a mandatory mock audition for all who are planning on auditioning... details to come.
Saturday, October, 26. Kick off is at 6 PM and we are visitors playing Cy-Lakes at the Berry Center.
We still have a few openings for the spring trip to San Antonio! Please consider attending the entire weekend - it will be a great time had by all! It's not too late, bring in your $100 deposit and your consent form ASAP. We have over 90 students staying for the weekend trip and you should consider doing so, too! Remember, everyone is expected to go on the day trip so they can compete with their band at the concert band festival.
The Friday, November 1 football game will be our senior game! Seniors are allowed to wear jeans and their letterman and should have a college shirt of their choice on. Even if you don't know where exactly you will be going to school, wear the shirt of where you are hoping to attend. Parents - I would love for you to accompany your senior on the field when their name is read. Please plan on being at this game to share in this moment with them. I am happy to escort your senior myself in your absence, but your attendance will mean so much to them. More details to come next week as we plan this event over the next few days.
Rehearsal in two weeks is on Halloween! Costumes are encouraged and we will have a costume contest! More details to come but here's a few for now: your costume must not impact your marching or playing ability, your costume must be appropriate for school, your costume must be on for the entirety of practice (as in you have to be able to march and play with it), you must be at ALL of rehearsal - don't be late.
Our final football game on November 8 will be a Salute to Veterans. Among other things we will play an armed forces medley with songs of all the branches of the military. More details to come.
Marching Season Dinner!
Mark Thursday, November 14 on your calendar. We will have our annual end of season marching dinner at the school. Senior shout outs will be a featured part of this fun celebration. Stay tuned for details!
That's it for this week! Go Band!
