From Mr. Drake:
Cougar Band Members and Parents,
What a successful week of Summer Band! We had 139 band members go ice skating on Tuesday (a record!) and had about 120 participate in the Rock-a-Thon! We hope everyone had fun at both events and thank you for your support!
Make sure to come to the Pool Party at Norchester Pool on Tuesday! 6-8 pm. Leaders bring drinks and everyone else bring a snack. The pool is located on Jones Road just north of the Grant/Jones intersection. The event is FREE and you should attend! (Mandatory fun!!)
Everyone worked VERY hard learning how to march this week - hard work that will certainly pay off as we move into week two of full band and begin the drill learning process. Reminders about upcoming rehearsals and a schedule change:
Monday 8/11-Thursday 8/14 8-4 (8-5 percussion)
Friday 8/15 4:30-8:30 pm
Monday 8/18 4-8 (this is a change by 30 mins)
Tuesday 8/19 4:30-8:30 (this is a change by 30 mins)
Wednesday 8/20 4-8
Thursday 8/21 4-8
The school district changed their schedule for teacher inservice.
The 21st is also our show off dinner. The band will practice from 4-6 and will have a parent "Show Off" in the track stadium at 6 followed by the Show Off Dinner in the large commons. That dinner will double as well as our first Band Booster meeting of the year AND is a required meeting for all wanting to attend the Disney trip March 4-9.
I'd like to make a big THANK YOU to Mr. Vandervort and Mr. Garcia for installing our brand new projector and screen in the band hall! They look GREAT and will be very helpful to the growth of the band. Thank you as well to all parents who chaperoned at the Aerodrome and at the Rock-a-Thon. We couldn't do it without you!
Let's have a great week! Remember - your attendance and effort during rehearsal are our biggest steps toward success. Make sure you PASS OFF your music! Don't get behind!

Q. I'm new. What is a show off?
A. Glad you asked! It is a chance for you to see the amazing work your child has accomplished in the month of August. The band will use the practice field (across the parking lot from the band hall) and share the show performance to date.
Q. Anything I need to know before the event?
A. Well, yes. The sun will be setting in the west so you will want to bring your sunglasses and maybe even an umbrella to shield you from the heat! Don't forget your camera!
Q. Anything else going on?
A. Yes! You can purchase spirit items or pick up ones you ordered in May. Chaperone sign ups will be available as well!
Q. Then there is a dinner? Is that right?
A. Yes. We will be serving baked potatoes with BBQ and all the usual toppings, drinks and dessert!
Q. Do I need reservations?
A. Yes! Please fill out a form and return with payment no later than Monday, August 18th.
Q. Do I have to purchase a meal to attend the meeting?
A. Of course not! But we hope you will! The meal is a band tradition and will be one of the fastest ways to feed your family on a busy night.
Q. Sounds like fun! How much will the dinner be and where do I get this form?
A. It will be a blast! We are super excited to announce the price has been LOWERED this year to make it more affordable for families to attend! Only $7 per person will get you a great meal with the band family. It is the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer band. Please come. It won't be a band dinner without you!
Don't forget! This will also be our August booster meeting. You will learn all about what to expect during football games and competition season. It is the first mandatory meeting for those wanting to attend the Disney trip in March. Forms will be coming home with your band member or access the form on the Cypress Creek Cougar band website. www.cycreekband.com
